Founded by James Beard-recognized chef and Cupcake Wars winner Alicia Hinze, The Buttered Tin has been a sunny staple for scratch-made eats and sweets in St. Paul, MN since 2013. In 2021, we expanded our love of community and good food to open a second location in NE Minneapolis!
For Alicia, breakfast was always a special time surrounded by loved ones. She wanted to share that experience with others by creating a casual, inviting space for people to enjoy deliciously wholesome food with their friends and family. There’s no better feeling than watching people gathered around the table, smiling and enjoying each other’s company!
The Buttered Tin’s St. Paul Menu and NE Minneapolis Menu has something for everyone. We craft our American breakfast and lunch classics from fresh, local ingredients sourced from trusted partners we hold near and dear to our hearts.
Our in-house bakery creates scratch-made treats daily, including delectable custom cakes, cookies, and sweets perfect for celebrations and special occasions—or just because! We believe you can indulge in a sweet treat without the guilt, especially when it’s made with simple, clean ingredients and love.

Meet Alicia Hinze
Owner & Pastry Chef
Alicia Hinze started her pastry career in 2006, attending the Patisserie and Baking Program at Le Cordon Bleu. She has worked with many well-known bakeries in the Twin Cities, as well as for Martha Stewart’s Wedding Magazines’ Contributing Editor Wendy Kromer. Additionally, she competed on The Food Network’s hit show Cupcake Wars several times with competition-winning results!
Following her fellowship in the inaugural class of the James Beard Foundation Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership program, Alicia was selected as a featured pastry chef for The 2018 James Beard Foundation Gala! Her menu featured many tasty sweets, including miniature orange bundt cakes with elderflower glaze and lime meringues, chocolate whoopie cookies with mocha cajeta, miniature pâte sucrée tarts, coconut cake with passion fruit curd, miniature browned butter–peach hand pies, and miniature banana cream pies. OH MY!
With a knack for scrumptious flavor combinations and creative decorations, Alicia makes every day feel like a celebration!
